Our company history

1998

Foundation of ConWys AG

ConWys AG was founded as a public limited company in August 1998. The company started with a team of three and specialised from the outset in the development and sale of electrical kits for trailer couplings and the associated electronic control units.
1998

Market launch of the first AFC module

In response to new legal requirements for signalling indicator failures on trailers, ConWys developed the AFC (Automatic Frequency Control) module. This module made it possible for the first time to indicate indicator failures to the driver visually or acoustically. This eliminated the need for separate test LEDs in the cockpit. This was a technical advance and an important development step in the company's history.
1999

First business premises moved into

In 1999, ConWys moved into its first official business premises on Sternmattweg in Kriens. With seven employees at that time, this created an important foundation for professional growth and structured work processes.
2003

Introduction of graphical installation instructions

Until then, installation instructions consisted exclusively of continuous text. In 2003, ConWys became the first company in the industry to systematically integrate graphical representations and pictograms into its instructions. This made installation easier and significantly increased user-friendliness.
2004

Move to Rothenburg

With continuous growth, the need for space also increased. In 2004, the company moved to Buzibachstrasse in Rothenburg. The new premises offered sufficient capacity for the now ten employees and enabled a more efficient working environment.
2005

Introduction of the CFC module (1st generation)

In response to the dynamic developments in the vehicle market, ConWys developed the first CFC module (CAN Frequency Control). This innovative module enabled direct communication with vehicle control units via the CAN bus for the first time. This allowed trailer lighting to be controlled and monitored reliably – a technological breakthrough in the trailer electronics segment.
2006

Market entry in England

With strategic foresight, ConWys successfully entered the British market. This step marked an important milestone in the company's international expansion and strengthened its position within Europe in the long term.
2008

Digital installation instructions on CD

In order to provide customers with more content in a space-saving manner, the installation instructions were delivered digitally on CD for the first time. This proved to be a major advantage, especially for multi-compatible electrical kits. At the same time, the reduction in paper consumption made an active contribution to conserving resources.
2009

Market launch of the ConWys test case

Conventional test lamps can damage modern control units or trigger error messages due to their high power consumption – in some countries they are even prohibited. As a safe alternative, ConWys developed a special test case that enabled precise and gentle diagnosis of trailer lighting systems.
2010

3rd generation CFC module (LED CFC)

With the increased use of LED lights on trailers, ConWys launched the LED CFC – a module specially developed for the reliable detection, control and monitoring of energy-saving LED technology. In addition to light monitoring, it offered a completely new function thanks to newly integrated diagnostic LEDs. Faults could now be identified and rectified immediately without the need for time-consuming measurements. A novel solution on the market.
2011–2014

Systematic further development of the modules

During this period, the control units were specifically further developed to meet both the requirements of modern vehicle technologies and the expectations of end users. The aim was to ensure the widest possible compatibility with different vehicle types. Among other things, the innovative UFC module was developed during this phase. With this module, ConWys set new standards by feeding unused energy back into the vehicle battery instead of wasting it via power resistors, as is customary on the market. This meant that NSL systems could still be detected correctly despite LED rear lights – an innovative solution that is both functional and energy-efficient.
2015

MDC module for swivelling trailer couplings

ConWys developed a tailor-made solution for swivelling trailer couplings with the MDC module. This control unit enables the collection and evaluation of safety-related vehicle data in order to automatically determine the operating and safety conditions at all times.
2016

7th generation CFC module

The seventh generation of the CFC module brought groundbreaking features. Particularly noteworthy is the light substitution feature: if a turn signal fails, the parking light is automatically activated as a turn signal so that following vehicles can still recognise the change of direction. In addition, the ‘Perfect Trailer Test’ was introduced, which enables a complete light check of the trailer without the need for an additional assistant.
2019

Switch to online installation instructions

In the course of increasing digitalisation, all installation instructions were fully integrated into the ConWys website. This replaced the previous CDs. Customers and workshops could now conveniently access up-to-date and vehicle-specific information at any time via a web browser.
2020

Integration into the TecDoc database

The listing of ConWys products in the TecDoc database has made product searches even easier. Customers can now identify electrical kits quickly and reliably using chassis numbers or type certificates.
2023

Move to new offices in Rothenburg

The move into the modern new building on Stationsstrasse in Rothenburg marked an important step in the company's development. The spacious premises offer ideal working conditions for the growing team and open up new opportunities for expansion. Thanks to the energy-efficient design of the office space, the basic energy requirement has also been significantly reduced and the carbon footprint has been sustainably improved.
2025

9th generation CFC module

With the ninth generation of the CFC module, ConWys” control technology has taken another significant step forward. The new module version has been comprehensively revised and offers numerous technical improvements. An enhanced self-diagnostic function provides clear visual feedback via a multi-coloured LED light, which greatly simplifies on-site troubleshooting. In addition, the system now automatically detects short circuits and cable mix-ups on some inputs. The module is also well equipped for the future. It meets the current requirements of modern safety and CAN bus standards. The newly developed, waterproof housing reliably protects the electronics from environmental influences and makes the LED diagnostic indicators even easier to read. The CFC9 thus sets new standards in ease of use, safety and system integration.
